Celebrity-spotting on a Budget at Toronto International Film Festival
George Clooney, Oprah Winfrey, Drew Barrymore, Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, Snoop Dogg, Matt Damon — you could drop some serious change and hang out at a posh restaurant like Sassafraz or Bistro 990 (a fave of Jude Law and Nicholas Cage) in the hopes of spotting one of these Hollywood stars at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival (September 10-19, 2009). Or, you could do as I do and hang out at one of these less swanky –but still –prime celebrity-gazing spots.
My personal favourite is the Starbucks at 139 Yorkville. Not only does it face the celebrity-worthy Hazelton Hotel, Toronto’s only 5 star digs, but they often serve free coffee and treats on the outdoor patio. Take your laptop and you can even get some work done while you wait. Another good spot is the Cumberland Theatre at 159 Cumberland where it’s easy to see celebrities while you wait in line for a screening. If you’ve got to do some grocery shopping anyway, why not head to Whole Foods Market an expensive and trendy emporium of everything edible at 87 Avenue Road? For trendy street-wear, Hollywood fashionistas like Jessica Alba and Renee Zellwegger head to Over the Rainbow at 101 Yorkville.
So grab your camera, hit the streets and get ready to enjoy some glitz and glamour!
