Celebrate International Waffle Day: March 25th

Published by michelepeterson at 8:45 am under Must-try Foods and Dishes Edit This

Dust off the waffle iron, it’s time to celebrate International Waffle Day. The event originated in Sweden where it’s called VĂ„ffeldagen and celebrates the end of winter and coming of spring. If you can’t make there to eat waffles in true Swedish style ( topped with jam and cream) then you might want to head to a destination close to home. Waffle HouseWaffle House Restaurants has been serving up waffles across the southern US since 1955 and is open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. They even have a museum for true waffle fans.

Then again, you could always make your own. It’s easier than you might think using this Sunbeam recipe:

Beat 2 egg yolks, 2 cups milk, 1 tablespoon baking powderm, 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/3 cup oil  with a mixer on high for 3 minutes.

Beat eggs whites until stiff and gently fold into the above batter.

Pour 1/2 cup batter into hot waffle iron and bake until golden ( 2-3 minutes)

Top with maple syrup or fresh berries.

I absolutely love waffles. I can eat two large with your everyday butter and maple syrup in one sitting. I had no idea today was waffle day which means I’ll have to make up for it tomorrow :) Thank you.
